Membership

If the Bible is the cornerstone of our church, then membership is the cement that holds us all together. Both Christ and Paul pointed us toward membership for our encouragement, our protection, and our instruction. We seek to present a biblical model of membership through a six-step process by which individuals may join NSBC.

Membership Testimony Worksheet- All prospective members are required to complete a Membership Testimony Worksheet. In this worksheet, prospective members will recount God’s converting work in his or her life. Upon approval by the elders the prospective member would then be scheduled for a Membership Interview. To obtain a membership testimony worksheet, please email office@ns-bc.org .

Membership Interview – In this meeting, a prospective member will sit down with at least two elders to provide basic biographical information and recount God’s converting work in his or her life. Upon giving a credible profession of faith, prospective members will be scheduled to attend our Membership Class.

Membership Class –The class is composed of a one hour class that covers our:

  • New Member Candidate Process
  • Statement of Faith
  • Church Covenant
  • Membership Expectations
  • Church Distinctives

Classes are usually scheduled the third Sunday, every other month. They run from 11am-12pm. Child care is provided. We intend for this informational meeting to help you to discern God’s will for your life with respect to church membership at NSBC.

Upon attending the Membership Class, if the prospective member still wishes to go forward with membership, they can submit their Membership Application and become a New Member Candidate.

New Member Candidate - New Member Candidates are expected to serve and complete  required homework over the next few months. This includes listening to sermons and completing reading assignments. New Member Candidates should also take this time to get to know and be known by others in the church.

Final Interview and Elder Review – Upon completion of the New Member Candidate Process, New Member Candidates will participate in a Final Interview with at least two elders. The elders will review the prospective member’s application at a regularly scheduled elders meeting. Upon receiving their collective approval, the candidate’s application proceeds to the next step: Congregational Affirmation.

Congregational Affirmation – During quarterly Members Meetings, an elder will present New Member Candidates before the church. Questions will be fielded, a vote will be taken, and with a majority of votes, candidates will be admitted into membership.
